Tuscarora Township DDA
The DDA is currently working on a project to create, extend, and update sidewalks in the community. They will eventually provide pathways from the snowmobile parking lot south of town at the township boundary as far north as the bridge over Indian River. All three phases are currently being engineered by Fleis & Vandenbrink of Traverse City.
The DDA meetings are on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., and are held in the meeting room of the Tuscarora Township Municipal Building located at 3546 S. Straits Highway. All meetings are open to the public, who is encouraged to attend.

Burt Lake State Park:
A five acre state park that has 380 modern and rustic campsites, a large beach and swim area on beautiful Burt Lake, a boat launch and a picnic area with a ball field.
This township park is located on a large shallow cove, at the mouth of Indian River and Burt Lake. It is just a short walk from the middle of downtown Indian River.
The park has a large sandy beach and picnic area, and is the home of our annual 4th of July fireworks display, the Top O’ Michigan Boat Races and the Indian River Chamber of Commerce family night during Summerfest.
A universally accessible, barrier free fishing pier has constructed at the DeVoe Beach Park. The pier was named VETERANS PIER to Honor the Service and Sacrifice of our Nations Veterans.
Veterans Pier is an ideal place to just sit and relax, cast a line or watch a beautiful sunset. It is a tremendous asset to our community as it enhances outdoor recreation and promotes the inland waterway as well as the entire Indian River area.
Located at the confluence of the Indian River and Little Sturgeon River is Marina Park and the Tuscarora Township boat launch. The park has benches for viewing the rivers, docks for fishing and tables for picnics. Final vision for the park includes day parking for boats, overnight marina, band shell, children’s playground and an on-site restroom and shower facility.
The boat launch is located across the Little Sturgeon River on Nabanois Road. It is a dual ramp, deep water launch site that launches directly into the Little Sturgeon River at the junction of the Indian River. There is parking for 26 vehicle/trailer combinations on site with overflow parking located at Marina Park.
Boat Launch User/Parking Fees: The daily launch/parking fee is $5.00 per day. This fee applies to all vehicles parked at the boat and/or launching or loading of boats. Passes must be displayed in the windshield of the vehicle.
Overflow parking is provided at Marina Park west of the Little Sturgeon. Vehicles without trailers may park at Marina Park for free; vehicles with trailers are $5.00 per day. Unattended trailers will be towed at owner’s expense.
Annual (January-December) passes are $35.00 and are available for purchase at the Tuscarora Township office and at the Indian River Chamber of Commerce. A business pass is available for purchase at the township office; please contact Sue Fisher, Clerk, at 231-238-0970 for further information.

North Central State Trail
Along the west side of Marina Park is the North Central State Trail, a year-round recreational trail that follows the abandoned Cheboygan to Gaylord railroad bed. The scenic 62 miles of abandoned railroad grade was resurfaced with crushed limestone and is open to walkers, bicyclists, snowmobilers and cross country skiers. The Indian River Tourist Information Center, public restrooms, food, beverages, frozen treats, ice cream, fudge, clothing and gift shops are located nearby on Straits Highway.
