Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm by Supervisor Jacobson.
Members present: Rohr, Balazovic, Jacobson, Fisher, Waldron
21 citizens were in attendance.
Minutes of the August meeting were approved as published.
Motion by Trustee Waldron to adopt the agenda with the addition of a Library Report and Marina Park update, supported by Trustee Rohr and it carried with 5 yeas.
Library Report: Circulation up 24% first two months of the years, young adults circulation is up 84% and this does not include the traffic for the internet. The library has been very busy.
Police Report: The Department is handling many property line issues.
Airport Report: Nothing new, conducting traffic count.
Treasurers Report: $702,440.88 in regular accounts, $156,195.29 in tax accounts. Treasurer Balazovic reported that the last day to pay summer taxes is Monday, September 15th.
The date of the public hearing for the Township Manager Committee to present their findings to the residents has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the Township Hall.
Mike Ridley requested the Township Board to submit a letter of support to have the Cheboygan County Road Commission revisit the esthetic bridge design. NEMCOG is looking for grant dollars to hold the public hearings. Luke Houlton has requested support from the Township Board, the DDA and the Chamber of Commerce. A motion by Trustee Waldron to submit a letter of support to the CCRC was seconded by Clerk Fisher and passed with five yeas.
Prospect Street Paving Proposal: Supervisor Jacobson received the final agreement from the CCRC to pave Prospect Street about the length of Green Dock which is $4-$5,000 higher than the original estimate. The parking lot should be completed by Thursday, September 4th. Will be taken out of the road fund and the monies that we receive from the CCRC. A motion by Trustee Waldron to sign the agreement with the Cheboygan County Road Commission was seconded by Clerk Fisher and passed with five yeas.
A motion by Clerk Fisher to purchase jointly between the Township and Parks Commission a handicap accessible port-a-potty to be used at either Marina Park or Devoe Beach for $1,000 from the Sportsman’s Club was seconded by Treasurer Balazovic and it carried.
A motion by Trustee Waldron to grant the request from An Indian River Christmas to use the township hall for their activities on Friday, November 2nd, was seconded by Trustee Rohr and carried with five yeas.
Loyal Woods, a long time resident and member of the Planning Commission submitted his resignation as Planning Commissioner. Trustee Waldron moved to accept Loyal Woods’ retirement, Clerk Fisher seconded and it carried.
Motion by Trustee Waldron to allow the Grower’s Market to use Marina Park on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with an alternate location being the Township’s parking lot was supported by Trustee Rohr and it carried with five yeas.
Scott Ingersoll, candidate for District Court Judge, gave an overview of his experience and qualifications to preside over the District Court.
Supervisor Jacobson reported that the Marina Park Commission would be submitting a letter to Jordan Byelich, DNR, requesting an amendment to the Boat Launch project grant to exclude asphalt paving from the initial construction scope of the project. Soil borings of the area suggested that substantial sub grade improvements would be required plus one to two years of settlement before asphalt paving of the access drives and parking lot could be performed.
Citizen Comments: Mr. Hoffman thanked the Township for brining Nabanois Trail and stated that he would not like to see tubing on the river halted.
Why is only the commercial corridor being considered for sewers?
Motion to pay the bills by Trustee Waldron, seconded by Trustee Rohr and it carried 5 yeas.
