Police make arrests in local Vulnerable Adult embezzlement case

On November 24, 2020 the Tuscarora Township Police Department began investigating an embezzlement from a Vulnerable Adult case. The elderly victim had given Power of Attorney to a Afton woman in 2019 whom she trusted to take care of her. The suspect, a 48-year-old Afton woman, used her position to clean out all of the victim’s savings, checking and retirement accounts and left the victim with tens of thousands of dollars in debt.  After a lengthy investigation Police determined the suspect had embezzled over $100,000 dollars from the victim, using the money to pay off personal debt, pay for personal items and other matters of personal gain. On April 7, 2021 Tuscarora Township Police arrested the 48-year-old Afton woman for Embezzlement from a Vulnerable Adult over $100,000 and Conspiracy to commit Embezzlement over $100,000. The woman’s husband, a 57-year-old Afton man, was arrested for Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement over $100,000. They were both lodged at the Cheboygan County Jail without incident.
