Along the west side of Marina Park is the North Central State Trail, a year-round recreational trail that follows the abandoned Cheboygan to Gaylord railroad bed.
The scenic 62 miles of abandoned railroad grade was resurfaced with crushed limestone and is open to walkers, bicyclists, snowmobilers and cross country skiers. The Indian River Tourist Information Center, public restrooms, food, beverages, frozen treats, ice cream, fudge, clothing and gift shops are located nearby on Straits Highway.
